E-Commerce is one of three points of focus for the Selangor International Expo 2016, due to the Selangor State Government’s recognition of e-Commerce as a growing economic sector with incredible growth potential.

According to YB Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, Selangor State Senior Executive Councillor for Investment, Industry and Commerce, SMEs, and Transportation, SIE 2016 is focusing on three growing economic sectors, namely the halal products and services, e-Commerce, and life sciences sectors to attract more investors to the state.

“The fact that we are holding this international expo for the second year running reflects our serious undertaking to investors, both foreign and local business communities to provide additional opportunities to drive their businesses further,” said Dato’ Teng.

Dato’ Teng also noted the achievements of the Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council, which operates under the secretariat of Invest Selangor to develop Selangor as a regional trading hub for e-Commerce, as well as to cultivate a startup-friendly environment to spur the growth of local startups.

The Selangor International Expo 2016 was launched earlier today at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre, marking the beginning of a three-day trade expo which will feature the strengths of Selangor as an investment destination, as well as its suitability as a gateway market into the rest of Southeast Asia.

Organised by the Selangor State Government through Invest Selangor Bhd, the opening ceremony saw a keynote address by YAB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin bin Ali, the Dato’ Menteri Besar of Selangor, who also officiated the expo.

“This expo is an integral part of Selangor’s positioning strategy, as the state is ready to serve as a gateway to the Asian market. The state government’s focus on five core economic clusters, namely the Transport Equipment, Life Sciences, Food, Halal Products and Services, as well as E&E and Machinery & Equipment, are due to these five being seen as active drivers of growth in the near- and mid-term future,” said Dato’ Seri Azmin, who assured all present that the state government will continue to play an active role in building up Selangor, as seen by the strategic shift towards high tech industries (reflected by the five core clusters).

The expo will also feature a series of conferences, such as a seminar on the halal industry, a biotech session, as well as a discussion on cross-border e-commerce activities within Southeast Asia. The conference on cross-border e-Commerce, which is the Southeast Asia E-Commerce Conference 2016, will be held on Saturday, October 22nd from 9 am to 5 pm.

The opening ceremony ended with the exchange of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between several companies and Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd, which is a state government-linked company tasked with the execution of the Pulau Indah Industrial Park (PIIP) and Selangor Bio Bay projects, as well as the Halal International Selangor global programs.
