Shah Alam, 26 October—  In conjunction with the Nov 11 Single Day Mega Sales campaign, the Selangor state government will channel RM 2 Million in the form of discount vouchers for the Selangor E Bazar.

The purpose of the initiative was to assist the Small, and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Micro Businesses in Selangor to embrace digitalisation in order to survive in the challenging business environment caused by Covid-19 Pandemic.

The initiative will be held concurrently at the two largest online business platforms in Malaysia namely Shopee and Lazada. It is estimated that 10,000 small and medium enterprise (SME) and micro enterprise will be benefited through the voucher campaign.

Merchants with registered Selangor addresses are welcomed to participate in the campaign for free through the SITEC website https://www.sidec.com.my/selangorebazar/. This includes existing E-Commerce merchants from Shopee and Lazada as well as prospective traditional merchants who wanted to start to sell online.

The campaign will be held from 26 October and 26 November 2020. It will be coordinated by Invest Selangor Berhad and Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (SITEC).

For the Selangor E Bazar 11.11 Days initiative, Shopee and Lazada will organise a special microsite in their respective platforms. The consumers also could access the special micropage and enjoy attractive discounts from Shopee and Lazada with subsidised vouchers from the Selangor State government.

Both Shopee and Lazada University will provide free training for the participating merchants to improve their marketing skills and market update. This is crucial to assist the merchant to improve their reach and sales.

“Selangor is the only state that launched 2 major online voucher campaigns back to back to accelerate the digitalisation of SMEs during this critical moment” said Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, Selangor State Executive Councillor for Investment, Industry & Commerce and SME.

“While it might be overwhelming for traditional business and small businesses trying to find their footing in the digital space within a short time, the business owner must possess the right mindset to adopt the best practice, in order to compete in the new norm.”

Ian Ho, Shopee’s Regional Director said: “Following the success of the first Selangor E-Bazar Raya with Shopee, it is only right for us to continue the momentum with the Selangor government on Nov 11 Mega Sales.

“We are optimistic that Selangor E-Bazar 11.11 will generate good results for Selangor entrepreneurs and contribute to the economic prosperity for the state, while at the same time offers essential goods at a reasonable price during uncertain times. “

With more than 320,000 SMEs joining our platform and increased registration of new local E-Seller for more than 200% during the first half of the year, Lazada has become the major destination for the local entrepreneurs to make sure their business is future proof by selling online,”

Presented are CEO of Invest Selangor Dato’ Hasan Azhari Bin Hj. Idris and Chief Executive of SITEC Yong Kai Ping.

“With one third of Malaysia population buying online through our platform every month, we look forward to continuing working with SITEC through the Selangor E Bazar campaign, and assisting Malaysian to save money, as the online initiative will help the countries’ economy to recover,”said Leo Chow, CEO Lazada Malaysia.

The previously Selangor E-Bazar Raya Campaign, which lasted for two months from May 4 to July 4 had achieved great success. From the RM 1 million voucher channel by the state government, the merchants successfully generated RM11.7 Million as the direct revenue, indicating a Return of Investment (ROI) of 12 times over the initial amount.

Moreover, through research and market findings of the Selangor State Government, it was noted that this initiative has generated about RM341.5 million in ripple effect to the SMEs.

These include economic, socio-economic and branding effects that have created positive impacts towards the merchants including their offline operations, job creation, online customer traffic, publicity, social media hype and more. This is an increase of 341 percent of the total of RM1 million voucher allocated by the Selangor State Government.
