The Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (SITEC) held a Hari Raya open house on Tuesday, July 19th, celebrating the end of the month of Ramadhan together with its partners and merchants.

The event was also graced by YB Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, Senior Councillor of the Selangor State Exco and Standing Committee Chairman of Investment, Industry & Trade, Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Transport, as well as members of Invest Selangor.

During his address to the attendees, YB Dato’ Teng spoke about Malaysia’s multiracial people as a strength in international trade, not only in terms of languages spoken, but also in terms of relating to cultures worldwide.

The Chief Executive of SITEC, Yong Kai Ping, also briefed guests about the progress of SITEC since its inception 13 months ago. Yong said that, to date, SITEC had successfully trained 187 brick and mortar SMEs to sell online, with these newly-established online merchants having created RM1.2 Million in sales, which is an encouraging achievement.

He also shared that SITEC will be holding three major events in the coming months; The SITEC e-Commerce Hackathon on August 9th; the SITEC Smart City Living Conference on September 27th, and the Southeast Asia E-Commerce Cross-Border Trading Conference on October 22nd. Yong encouraged all online merchants to participate in these events, and take a hand in guiding the future of e-commerce in Malaysia.


























Guests took part in a lucky draw and exciting games such a Raya quiz and a song guessing game as well as a treasure hunt for goodies. The top 4 best dressed participants were also given prizes and crowned the King and Queen of the party.

All the prizes were kindly sponsored several of SITEC’s partners such as 11Street, Youbeli, Printcious, TRAVELOC, CK Multimedia System, Supermodel’s Secrets, AOnePlus, and iPEOPLE.  

As the celebration took place after an E-Commerce Class, the participants of the class were invited to take part as well.

After the prizes had been given out, guests were invited to partake in delicious traditional Malay food such as rendang, lemang, ketupat, satay, acar, bee hoon, as well as a variety of traditional Malay and Nyonya kueh.
