Shah Alam, March 22 The Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards 2016, organised by the Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (SITEC) with the support of MDeC, Invest Selangor and major industry partners, is now in full swing since the polls opened in the wee hours of March 22.

Barely 18 hours into the event, over 2,700 (and counting) voters have made themselves heard in who they want to see emerge as Malaysia’s top e-commerce merchant out of the 60 shortlisted participants.

The Vox Populi is Represented Too
Members of the public can cast their votes to support their favourite e-merchants through the SITEC website at http://bit.ly/topecmvotews OR via polling on the SITEC Facebook page at http://bit.ly/topecm16vote.

Votes from the public carries a 50% weightage in the judging, with the remainder 50% up to the distinguished panel of judges fielded for this competition. They will each assess and award points to every shortlisted merchant based on four dimensions: (a) Product offerings, (b) General marketing efforts, (c) Social Media usage and (d) Sales Value or Sales Volume.

The ceremony to award the top 10 finalists will be held on April 9th, at the Empire Hotel Subang.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the strong response we have seen. We continue to encourage more people to vote to help crown Malaysia’s Top E-Commerce Merchant for 2016.

“This also shows that the local e-commerce scene already has a sizeable following, but still has more room to grow.

“It is a good sign for the future of the e-commerce scene in Malaysia,” said Mr. Yong Kai Ping, the Chief Executive of SITEC.

Voters stand a chance to win a variety of prizes worth RM 5,000, such as Google Cardboard VR sets and Logitech Keyboards, with the biggest prize being the 4D3N, all-expenses paid trip for two to Bali.

The public polls close on March 31st and the results of the lucky draw winners will be announced on April 4th.


About the Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards 2016

The Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards is organised by SITEC with the support of MDeC and major industry players to honour the hard work and dedication of merchants who have entered e-commerce, while serving to raise the awareness of the public to the local e-commerce scene.

Participants stand a chance to win a total of RM25,000 in cash prizes, as well as certification and mentorship by major industry players. The top 10 winners will be announced and the event will be commemorated in a gala dinner on April 9th at Empire Subang Hotel.

The Judging Panel

The judging panel is made up of prominent names and major players representing different areas in the e-commerce scene.  

Hans Peter Ressel, CEO of Lazada Malaysia, Hoseok Kim, CEO of 11street, Bernard Yap, Chief Digital Officer of Logon.my, Adrian Foong, GM of Lelong, Andy Lau, CEO of Youbeli represent the e-marketplace segment, while Chan Kok Long, CEO of iPay 88 and Eng Sheng Guan, CEO of MOLPay, represent payment gateways.

Other major players include Chan Kee Siak, founder and CEO of Exabytes, CK Wong and Adrian Oh, the co-founders of eCommerceMILO, as well as Chief Executive Yong Kai Ping and EC Class Manager Goh Boon Peng representing SITEC.
